How to bounce back at work after the holidays

With the many blessings that come with holidays, such as sleeping in, feasts with family and friends, and the lack of clients or coworkers flooding your inbox, getting back to work can be as smooth as sandpaper.

Thankfully, getting back into the grind doesn’t have to be such a difficult task; it’s as much about handling your strategy of tackling work as it is about managing your personal time. We’ve rounded up our top tips in order to help you get back into the swing of things quickly.

Create a structured work schedule

Jumping back into work after a break often means a sea of emails to swim through and a flood of action items from both colleagues and clients following up on tasks that were sent your way before the holiday.

Don’t freak out. Instead, outline what exactly needs to be done and when. Be realistic with your schedule and make sure to buffer in extra time, just in case emergencies or urgent last minute work pops up. If you are truly deluged, you’ll be able to spot that much earlier and seek out support from others, who are more likely to help you if give them a heads up about it in advance, rather than at the last minute.

Enjoy your personal time

When away from your desk, it’s easy to stay stressed about the large amount of work awaiting you. But instead of focusing on the work grind and risking burnout, do something for yourself – find a new hobby, play sport, devour a new book or take up an online course. Exercise your brain in new ways and give yourself a reason to look forward to a new day.

Plan your next getaway

A great way to get over the post-holiday blues is simply to start planning a new one! It doesn’t have to be a long, expensive overseas trip – it can even be a short weekend staycation with friends. But the time spent planning and the giddy anticipation for your next trip will surely help you get over your post-holiday blues!
