How to recharge during Singapore’s National Day

National-Day

Everybody loves Singapore’s National Day – for many reasons, but particularly because it’s a public holiday and most people don’t have to work!

But anyone hoping for a long weekend this year will be disappointed, as it falls on a Wednesday. While this is less convenient for any beach holiday plans, it doesn’t mean it’s not beneficial for us. In fact, a mid-week break can actually do wonders for our productivity.

Here is how SG52 can help you to be more productive.

Relax, lah!

A random Wednesday off might not lend itself for a quick getaway, but that doesn’t mean you can’t relax. Don’t waste time with travelling to other places when you can relish what’s right in front of you.

Use this midweek break to do something simple and enjoyable – be it an extended family dinner or a catch-up with friends. It might just be one day, but spending it happily recharges your batteries and offers relief from stress and worries. Go back to work on Thursday feeling happy!

…But also get active

Chances are high that you work at your desk, not walking around for most of the day, and taking in more calories than you burn. Our sedentary lifestyles are a problem, and we need to make the time to balance all this sitting around with activities, sports or other ways of raising our energy levels.

Use National Day to get active. Go to the gym in the morning instead of that boardroom meeting. Go for a walk with friends after you meet for a coffee, or take your kids swimming. There’s a lot going on in Singapore this National Day, so you won’t run out of ideas! Get off your behind and talk a walk around our beautiful city.

Break the routine

Yes, it might only be one day off – but don’t let it go to waste! This is an extra day out of seven that you have the chance to do what you want. Try to break free from your routine and do something new or different than what you would normally do on the weekend. Make it a memorable day that leaves you feeling relaxed, satisfied and happy that you achieved something different.

Kickstart a mid-week habit

Unfortunately, there isn’t a public holiday every Wednesday – but there’s no reason why you can’t include a little mid-week break into your routine. Consider setting up a regular activity or get-together on Wednesdays. Maybe you could host a mid-week BBQ, get some mates together for a regular pub quiz, or set up a games night.

Creating your own mid-week break is not only a good way to recharge, but is also a fun team bonding activity. A short break from your work routine can have a huge influence on overall office productivity.

And if none of that works… at least there’s only two more days until the weekend!
