The Office of Health and Safety (OHS) champions the health and safety management in NTU. OHS manages university level health and safety programmes, such as ergonomics, radiation safety, chemical safety, electrical safety, amongst others. OHS is also responsible for establishing frameworks and systems that will support the promotion and sharing of best practices in safety and health among Colleges/Schools/Research Centres and Departments in the University.
OHS is hiring an Assistant Director to be responsible for developing and enhancing the University's safety and health programmes that will support Colleges/Schools/Research Centres and Departments in the University to excel beyond regulatory compliance as we build a positive safety and health culture together. We are looking for candidates with a strong passion in health and safety and have demonstrated experience in managing institutional level/corporate health and safety programmes and services. The candidate must demonstrate strong managerial and leadership skills in motivating stakeholders and staff reporting to him/her to reach new heights of safety and health excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Systems Safety Unit in the Office of Health & Safety, NTU.
- Develop & enhance University's safety and health programmes in areas such as infrastructure safety, facilities safety and contractor safety management.
- Manage both internal and external reporting on enterprise-level performance indicators.
- Lead departmental level organizational transformational enhancements.
- Propose strategic enhancements to policies and programmes using data analytics.
- Develop the departmental IT & AI systems roadmap related to health and safety auditing and enterprise level risk monitoring and management.
- Conduct safety training on offices & laboratory-based faculties/research institutes for staff and students
- Manage and lead the School and Department Health and Safety teams in developing and implementing their safety and health management systems.
- Provide strategic and value-added solutions to faculty, management and students on workplace safety and health issues, including risk and hazard mitigation.
- Serve as a liaison with governmental bodies and regulatory agencies.
- Conduct workplace safety and health related audits and inspections of offices, research laboratories and their supporting facilities.
- Conduct investigations into accidents and incidents that takes place in laboratory-based faculties/research institutes with the safety committee members.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Degree in Physical Sciences, Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Environmental) with preferably a post-graduate degree in Safety, Health and Environmental Technology or Engineering.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in Safety & Health Management, preferably at the corporate or institutional level.
- At least 5 years of experience in managing teams or units.
- Certification as a Registered Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) would be advantageous.
- Proven experience managing comprehensive safety and health management systems.
- Strong analytical, negotiation & leadership skills.
