JOB PURPOSE
To assist the Head Chef and supervisors in food preparation to ensure optimum services delivery to the internal and external customers
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Meal Preparation and Cooking:
- Lead preparation and cooking for complex dishes and main courses.
- Ensure consistency in taste, quality, and presentation for all meals.
- Prepare special meals as needed, considering dietary restrictions.
Supervision and Team Leadership:
- Oversee the kitchen team, including Cooks 2 and 3, to ensure productivity and quality.
- Train and mentor junior kitchen staff, maintaining high culinary standards.
- Assist in coordinating schedules and kitchen workflow for smooth operations.
Food Donation Management:
- Plan and incorporate donated ingredients into menus to optimize resources.
- Supervise the sorting, storage, and usage of donated food items.
- Track the use of donations to prevent spoilage and maintain quality standards.
Inventory and Stock Management:
- Monitor food supplies, both donated and purchased, to ensure accurate inventory.
- Ensure ingredients are stored properly and rotated to maintain freshness.
- Communicate stock and donation needs to the Head Chef for procurement planning.
Health & Safety Compliance:
- Enforce kitchen safety and hygiene protocols, including food handling and cleaning standards.
- Ensure that food safety standards are met across all stages of meal preparation.
- Address safety concerns and train the team on best practices.
Requirements:
- At least primary school level of education
- Able to stand, lift, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
- Willingness to work closely with kitchen staff and take direction.
- Ability to follow instructions precisely and maintain a clean workspace.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience in food preparation
