About the role
The Demurrage Analyst is responsible for review, analysis and negotiation of shipping and counterparty demurrage/ancillary claims in accordance with the demurrage and ancillary processes for Ampol Group. The aim is to help Trading & Shipping and Refinery to minimise demurrage/ancillary exposure, avert any potential contractual terms pitfalls (unwarranted costs) and improve economic outcomes for Ampol Group.
Key responsibilities
Track Ampol shipments to determine demurrage exposure and areas for recovery
- Monitor and analyse each shipment's summary of movements to identify opportunities to recover demurrage.
- Work closely with the Cargo, Vessel and Supply Operators to gather the information required for demurrage assessment and defend demurrage claims.
- Keep track of payables and receivables master tracker and provide monthly updates to the Commercial teams and management regarding outstanding claims.
Managing demurrage payables with Owners and Counterparties directly or via Brokers
- Review and develop demurrage assessment in accordance with the contractual terms and conditions.
- Ensure fully documented claim is submitted within the time bar period.
- Negotiate the claim to generate a positive outcome for Ampol Group.
- Escalate unresolved disputes according to internal dispute resolution procedures.
Managing demurrage payables & receivables with third parties and obtaining payment
- Calculate, generate and send demurrage claims, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contractual terms and industry practices.
- Develop & maintain good relationship with counterparties to help recovery and minimise outstanding payments.
Collaboration with Trading, Chartering, Contract and Operations
- Highlight non favourable terms to Contract team
- Identify potential pitfalls at load and discharge ports that may have an impact on demurrage exposure or recovery.
Maintain demurrage/ancillary data integrity in Demurrage Hub, IMOS and Allegro
- Update the relevant shipping information in Demurrage Hub.
- Review the shipments information and record costs in Demurrage Hub.
- Perform month end demurrage accruals in Demurrage Hub.
Management of demurrage & ancillary functions
- Follow internal claim validation procedures for payments or issuing of invoices.
- Includes management of invoicing, interfacing with accounts teams and 3rd parties.
- Collaborate with Settlement, Trading Accounting and Finance teams to monitor payable and receivable claims.
Qualifications & experience
- Tertiary qualifications related discipline
- Tertiary qualifications in Maritime, Supply Chain or Business
- Minimum 3 years of experiences in operations / demurrage / contract / accounting (demurrage related)
- Commercial experience in the shipping (tanker), oil industry and/or petroleum trading companies in areas such as cargo / shipping operations is preferred
Skills & Knowledge
- Meticulous and good communicator
- Good understanding in IMOS and Excel (Pivot table/chart, X Lookup, etc.)
- Familiarity with Petroleum GT&Cs and Shipping Charterparties such as BP GTC, Shell Voy 6, etc.
