Role Profile
Reporting into the Head of Software Engineering, this role combines the management application systems, deployment processes to ensure accurate and efficient releases of new features and the maintenance of uptime, performance, and reliability.
The successful candidate will join a team of engineers responsible for maintaining current and future technical platforms conduct fault diagnosis and remediation activities as well as ensure and maintain the security of platforms across the Lloyd's List Intelligence technical estate.
This role is balanced working model between home and in our modern and centrally located Singapore office with an excellent and a wide variety of services and transport links situated nearby.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with Product teams, Software, and Data engineers to maintain and develop tools and infrastructure, driving innovation and optimising existing and new product value streams.
- Lead and advise on the modernisation of end-to-end ETL and real-time streaming pipelines, refining development processes, and introducing relevant technologies and tools.
- Work extensively with AWS cloud platforms and tools, applying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practicesparticularly with Terraformand prioritising both cost optimisation and secure network configurations.
- Ensure robust security by implementing and managing cybersecurity frameworks and tools, including [specific security tools currently in use], to protect systems against threats.
- Apply network knowledge to optimise and secure infrastructure, ensuring efficient communication and data flow across systems.
- Implement a proactive patch management strategy to keep all systems updated with the latest security patches.
- Adhere to change management protocols and version control standards, ensuring a secure code repository with reliable backup strategies for key intellectual property. (maybe we can rephrase it better)
- Effectively present and explain advanced technical designs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What we are looking for:
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in software, network, or cybersecurity (or demonstrable equal experience)
- At least 2 years experience in a DevOps Engineer role
- Proven experience or certification in AWS
- Proven experience in troubleshooting and debugging SQL, SNS, SQS, Kinesis, C# (.net Core), S3, FTP, AWS Lambda. HTTP level REST API experience (and previous API standards, e.g SOAP)
- Proven experience in operating system administration (on both Wintel and Linux).
- Proven experience in networking components and systems, including webservers, firewalls and network routing.
- Familiarity with automation tooling (such as Jenkins) and runtime integrated analysis tooling (such as New Relic)
- Familiarity with the design, development and maintenance of best-in-class analytical capabilities, including data warehousing (Redshift, OpenSearch, Athena, SQL, etc)
- Familiarity of architectural design patterns for micro-services leveraging relational and big data technologies
- Disciplined, self-starter attitude driven to improve systems and processes and a willingness to learn
- Excellent documentation of processes
Desirable
- Provisioning new technical assets (e.g EC2 build), Kubernetes, Docker and associated virtualisation or containerisation technology.
