What will you be doing
The Director of Global Purchasing is an executive level role that leads the Company's global purchasing operation to deliver exceptional experiences and outcomes to the Company's primary stakeholders. The Director is responsible for sourcing and purchasing quality electronic components in support of our Business Partners on time and at the best overall value.
Your main areas of responsibility and essential functions will be:
- Develop, lead, and execute purchasing strategies to support external Business Partners globally and optimize profitability
- Identify strategic sources closest to the original source; develop and maintain direct partnerships with those sources that best enable the Company's ability to provide quality products to our business partners
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure achievement of business objectives while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and Company policies
- Responsible for all aspects of the Company's purchasing staff management including maintaining appropriate staff levels, defining and maintaining appropriate compensation plans, training, coaching, developing, leading, managing performance, etc.
- Identify, create, develop, and enhance strategic sourcing partnerships across high value supply chain partners including OCM, OEM, EMS, franchise, and independent distributors
- Manage and maintain vendor rating system, monitor supplier performance ensuring their ability to meet timeliness and quality standards, resolve any issues or disputes
- Employ continuous improvement strategies to develop, implement, and maintain purchasing strategies, policies, processes, and procedures to ensure access to supply, optimize margins, operational costs, and efficiencies in all market situations
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and enable delivery to the Company's purchasing needs and requirements
- Drive achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual purchasing and gross profit objectives
- Proactively identify purchasing risks and opportunities through monitoring of market trends, economic factors, regulatory changes, etc.; mitigate risks and ensure compliance with all trade related regulatory requirements
- Proactively collaborate with Senior Leadership Team on topics including purchasing performance, market conditions, and strategies
- Support the healthy, profitable growth of Velocity's business opportunities. Live and hold others accountable to Velocity's core values, purpose, and value proposition to the Company's primary stakeholders
- Ability to travel internationally
Education, Experience, and Knowledge
Required Education
Required Experience
- 10+ years of purchasing or other experience in electronic components distribution
- 5+ years management experience
Preferred Experience
- 10+ years purchasing management experience in industry
- Experience working for US-based company
Required Knowledge
- Extensive product and market knowledge
- Fluent in English
