Job Purpose:
The Process Development Engineer (Nanocomposite) is responsible for developing and optimizing various manufacturing processes which are related to Nanocomposite project. For example, plastic compound formulations, extruder and injection molding. They work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the desired material properties are achieved, and they contribute to improving the overall performance, process capability, quality, and cost-effectiveness of project product. This role requires expertise in mechanical engineering knowledge, polymer science, compounding techniques, and an understanding of industry regulations and standards.
Responsibilities:
1. Compound Formulation Development:
- Design and develop plastic compound formulations based on project requirements and specifications.
- Conduct research and evaluate new additives, fillers, and processing aids to
- enhance material performance.
- Collaborate with suppliers to select raw materials and ensure their availability and
- compliance with quality standards.
- Optimize compound recipes for desired properties such as mechanical strength,
- flame resistance, chemical resistance, and color.
2. Process Optimization and Troubleshooting:
- Analyze and optimize compounding processes to achieve consistent material quality
- and production efficiency.
- Identify and resolve issues related to material flow, mixing, feeding, and extrusion
- processes.
- Conduct root cause analysis for process deviations and implement corrective actions
- to prevent reoccurrence.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to implement process improvements and
- enhance productivity.
- Support on CAD to design and set up suitable machines, parts or fixture for process improvements.
3. Quality Control and Testing:
- Develop and implement quality control procedures for raw materials and finished
- compounds.
- Perform regular testing and analysis of compound samples to ensure they meet
- required specifications.
- Collaborate with quality assurance teams to investigate and resolve any nonconformances or customer complaints related to compound performance.
- Maintain accurate documentation of test results, specifications, and procedures.
4. Collaboration and Technical Support:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, manufacturing, and sales, to understand customer requirements and provide technical support.
- Collaborate with product designers to optimize material selection and assist in the development of new plastic products.
- Provide technical guidance and training to production operators and technicians regarding compound processing and troubleshooting.
5. Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay updated with industry regulations, standards, and safety guidelines related to plastic compounding.
- Ensure compounds and processes comply with relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Participate in audits and support documentation required for regulatory compliance.
- Participate in safety & risk management activities.
Requirements:
Education:
Master or Degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of polymer science, compounding principles, and plastics processing techniques.
- Experience in developing plastic compound formulations and optimizing material properties.
- Proficiency in conducting laboratory tests and analysis of plastic compounds.
- Familiarity with compounding equipment, such as twin-screw extruders, mixers, and pelletizers.
- Experience in 2D/3D CAD drafting (Autocad, Solidwork, Creo or NX).
- Proficient in CNC machining and Fixture design
- Skilled in interpreting customer drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of industry regulations and standards, such as ISO, ASTM, and FDA, is desirable.
- Familiarity with quality control procedures and statistical analysis is a plus.
Experience:
Preferred prior experience in plastic manufacturing industry, but open to fresh graduates.
