Food Science Engineer

This project is with Prefer, a startup supported by SGInnovate under the PowerX Programme. PowerX is a 12-months traineeship programme designed to enable and create Deep Tech career opportunities for working professionals, combing bespoke training and industry experience.

Prefer is a Singapore-based startup making coffee without coffee beans. Prefer upcycles and ferments food manufacturing by-products, such as barley, bread, and soy to create coffee flavours. Prefer is building up their pilot production facility and is looking for fermentation/bioprocess engineers, brewers, or application scientists to trial our pilot processes and make coffee.

Prefer's current manufacturing process is labour-intensive and has a ceiling of 50 kg/week. Prefer wants to understand how they can tap on automation and IoT to improve efficiency and safety in our processes; explore creative ways of problem-solving and designing equipment or processes to optimise our manufacturing steps; and demonstrate scalability of our solutions.

Following a successful project implementation, Prefer may be partnering with FMCG/CPG MNCs to collaborate with them and build larger, future plants together.
