Basic Purpose and Objective of Job
The Graduate Trainee Program in the Merchandising Department is designed to provide fresh graduates with comprehensive training and hands-on experience in various aspects of merchandising. This program aims to develop future leaders in the field of merchandising by exposing trainees to market analysis, supplier management, inventory control, and pricing strategies. Trainees will rotate through different roles within the department, gaining valuable insights and practical skills to prepare them for the role of Assistant Merchandising Manager.
You will be assigned to the various scopes to understand the functions within Merchandising Department
Buying
Market Research & Trend Analysis
Conduct research to identify emerging trends and responsibilities.
Analyze data to understand market demand and inform decision-making.
Stay updated on industry changes and technology advancements.
Supplier Relationship Management
Develop strong relationships with suppliers to negotiate prices, quality, and delivery terms.
Assist in sourcing and evaluating new suppliers.
Merchandise Planning & Inventory Management
Participate in the selection and assortment planning of merchandise.
Support the development and implementation of inventory management strategies.
Collaborate with marketing teams to align merchandise plans with promotional activities.
Monitor and manage aging inventory to ensure stock health.
Product and Pricing Strategy Development
Assist in product development initiatives from concept to launch.
Analyze sales performance and customer feedback for product lifecycle management.
Help formulate pricing strategies to maintain competitiveness and profitability.
Merchandise Control
Strategic Inventory and Stock Management
Develop and implement inventory management strategies.
Oversees stock verification, allocation, distributions, and stock takes.
Pricing Strategy and Managment
Direct the evaluation and adjustment of pricing strategies.
Ensure accuracy and integrity of inventory data entries and pricing updates.
Operational Support and Efficiency
Oversee customer sales orders, purchasing of materials, and stock inventory levels
Liaise with sub-contractors and retail outlets on quality, delivery issues, and urgent orders.
Re-design work processes for efficiency, cost reduction, and maintain machinery and equipment.
Reporting and Analysis
Monitor and control markdown and promotion activities to maximize profitability and sell-through.
Analyze sales data to identify risks and opportunities, and collaborate with finance to support business decisions.
Involve in projects such as defining store profiles, and enhancing corporate IT systems for merchandise management.
Provide insights on inventory levels, sales performance, and market trends.
Support the merchandising team with data-driven recommendations.
Required Skills and Abilities:
University graduate with a recognized degree in any discipline.
Minimum of 1 year of working experience in any field.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
Pro-active and detail-oriented with a strong work ethic.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
