Job Description

The Head Library position is responsible for leading and managing the RELC Library. This role involves overseeing library operations, collection development, information services, and digital initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a passion for library and a strong commitment to supporting the academic and research needs of our diverse community.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develops and implements the library's strategic plan, aligning it with SEAMEO RELC's goals and objectives.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to the library staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication channels with teaching division and other stakeholders.

Collection Development

  • Oversees the acquisition, organization, and maintenance of the library's collection, including print, electronic, and digital resources.
  • Ensures the collection is relevant, up-to-date, and meets the needs of the diverse user community.
  • Develops collection policies and procedures to guide acquisitions and weeding decisions.

Digital Initiatives

  • Stays updated on emerging technologies and trends in library and information science.
  • Lead the development and implementation of digital library initiatives, including e-resources, digital archives, and online databases.

Budget Management

  • Oversee the library's budget and allocate resources effectively.
  • Prepare monthly reports (FND), monthly statistics and ad hoc library activities reports for management reporting.

User Services

  • Conduct library orientations for visiting academics, research fellows, postgraduate students and course members.
  • Educate users in using library facilities, including online library catalogue, internet and other media resources.

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with teaching division, researchers, and other stakeholders to support their information needs.

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
  • Proven experience in library management, preferably in local public or IHL libraries.
  • Strong knowledge of library automation systems or digital technologies such as RFID.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with Southeast Asian languages and cultures is an advantage.
