The Evonik Skin Institute ensures the biological and clinical evaluation of cosmetic ingredients as well as support new innovation projects. The assistant/head of biological data management consolidates and evaluates omics data as well as design solutions for data analysis and automation of data interpretation. This person also supports into identifying and implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based solutions to facilitate product development and innovation, as well as coordinates solutions for data organization and storage.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Multi-omics data analysis and pipeline design: designs computational methods to analyze and integrate diverse biological datasets, including but not limited to epigenomics, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data.
Advise the scientists on how to best design research projects to maximize computational efficiency and facilitate subsequent analysis.
Image Analysis: Develops and implements algorithms and computational pipelines for the analysis of biological images, including microscopy, clinical images, and other imaging modalities.
AI and Machine Learning: Designs, evaluates and utilizes AI and machine learning algorithms to uncover patterns, correlations, and predictive models from multi-dimensional biological datasets, enabling a better understanding of biological processes and mechanisms. These may involve feature selection, dimensionality reduction, clustering, and predictive modelling.
Data cross-integration: Collaborates with the team to integrate image data with other biological data types to comprehensively understand biological systems and mechanisms.
Data Management: Designs and optimizes databases to efficiently store and retrieve multi-omics and image data. Ensure data integrity and security while facilitating easy access for researchers.
Biological story telling: work closely with the team and correlate data with biological effect in skin.
Collaborative Research: Collaborate with experimental biologists and other researchers to design experiments, analyze data, and interpret results in a multidisciplinary environment.
REQUIREMENTS
Masters or Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field.
Ideally at least 5 years of relevant experience.
Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in computational biology, such as Python, or R.
Experience with AI and general-purpose machine learning techniques and libraries.
Knowledge of database management and data integration methodologies.
Understanding of statistical methods for analyzing biological data.
Familiarity with image analysis and relevant software packages. These analyses may include image segmentation, feature extraction, object detection, and tracking.
Proficiency in utilizing bioinformatics databases and resources for biological data analysis.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex biological data.
Understand historical and cutting-edge approaches in computational biology, bioinformatics, and AI and incorporate the right methodologies for the job.
Having knowledge in skin biology and/or epigenetics is an advantage.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and present findings to stakeholders.
