This is a unique career opportunity for a seasoned legal expert to shape RWE Supply & Trading's (RWEST) growth in the Asia-Pacific region. Our experienced legal & compliance counsel team in the APAC region advises the local businesses on all legal & compliance matters and drives RWE's mission our energy for a sustainable life by enabling innovative business ideas locally. This role leads and coordinates this team of experienced legal professionals. It closely collaborates with both local commercial and other support functions to ensure high quality and on-time practical legal and compliance advice. The role reports disciplinary to the Chief Financial Officer for the APAC region and functionally to RWEST's global Legal & Compliance functions to ensure close alignment in terms of business goals.

About The Role

  • Lead and coordinate a team of senior legal & compliance professionals across Australia, China, Japan, and Singapore.
  • Take ownership of and manage the inhouse and external legal & compliance support for the growing origination, commodities trading and commercialization businesses of RWEST in the APAC region.
  • Collaborate actively in building a fully integrated, cross-functional regional support team through knowledge sharing and teamwork.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies that support RWEST's business objectives while mitigating risk, ensuring all business activities are conducted in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Provide strategic advice to senior management on key legal and compliance issues, helping to shape business decisions and growth initiatives in the APAC region.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of internal policies, processes, and compliance frameworks to support the dynamic and evolving nature of the market.

Job Requirements And Experiences

  • An experienced commercial lawyer with a background in commodities trading, energy, or financial services, having practiced either in-house or as outside counsel in one or more of the following countries: Australia, China, Japan, India, Indonesia, or Singapore.
  • Strong cultural awareness, with the ability to work effectively as part of a global team.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, able to guide and inspire a team of senior experts from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment, while setting clear expectations and driving accountability.
  • Self-motivated and results-driven, with the ability to balance local autonomy with global collaboration.
  • Experience in advising stakeholders on eye-level and not shying away from conflict and demonstrating confidence in defending your position also when challenged.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term goals with immediate business needs, ensuring the team delivers impactful legal and compliance solutions.
  • Fluent in English, proficiency in an Asian language is a plus.
