Our client is a respected organization in the integrated healthcare space currently looking to identify a Head of Pharmacy.
As the Head of Pharmacy, you will set and coordinate the business direction and activities while collaborating closely with departmental and organizational leadership to continually direct and assess a wide range of issues, including operational, staff, budgetary, facilities and systems issues, programmatic development, long-range planning and project development. You will also work with clinical and non-clinical staff members to optimize operational and cost efficiencies wherever possible.
You shall draw upon a broad understanding of clinical practices and policies and display a high degree of initiative and independent judgment while possessing a thorough knowledge of the medical regulatory environment as it relates to healthcare reimbursement and compliance, and contract management. You will need to exercise discretion and keen judgment to organize priorities, complete tasks and handle confidential information.
Responsibilities
Budget:
- Prepare the annual operating and pharmaceutical budgets
- Prepare monthly audits and summaries of budget variances
- Oversee the finance management policies and procedures
- Manage the pharmacy cost centers; staying on target with budgetary goals
- Analyse, monitor and report on financial performance both internal to the department and within the organization
- Work with retail clinics, inhouse clinics and telemedicine departments, and interdepartmental ambulatory clinics on annual budgeting
- Forecast drug expense for purposes of revenue and expense budget planning
- Lead department planning, submission, and implementation of capital request process
Analytics
- Work with analysts on both operational, financial, and drug utilization analytics data and dashboards that support the pharmacy leadership team, department, and organization
- Report regularly to both internal and external customers as needed
Drug and Vendor Contracting
- Negotiate contracts as needed either independently or with the management
- Work with vendors, Legal, Procurement and Finance to ensure contracts appropriately comply with company policies and governance framework
- Oversee pharmaceutical drug manufacture rebate assessment and processing
Supply chain, auditing, charges, revenue, and accounting
- Directly oversee the Pharmacy Department P&L
- Ensure the integrity, efficiency and effectiveness of the revenue cycle
- Direct activities of pharmacy staff involved in purchasing, receiving, and billing
- Ensure full compliance with clinical and country regulatory requirements
- Oversee inventory management policies and procedures
- Oversee the general management of the inventory, including but not limited to:
(a) Procurement of product from approved vendors
(b) Accurate receipt of product into the pharmacy computer systems and appropriate assignment to cost centers
(c) Provide oversight of compliance to accepted standards of receipt and accounting for products
(d) Management of the receipt ensures that the correct pricing is in the system
(e) Provide monitoring and tracking of appropriate drug cost rates and subsequent charges
- Perform trend analysis and other pharmacoeconomic reviews
- Conduct annual and periodic inventories
- Acts as liaison with other departments, other institutions, and organizations regarding financial and pharmacoeconomic issues
- Work with other departments on drug formulary pricing
- Assist other department in times of crisis or pandemic in the supply of medication and drugs
Project, team management & other initiatives
- Take the lead on special projects as required
- Provide support for business plans financial modelling projects
- Work across departments to ensure delivery of projects
- Budgetary oversight of personnel
- Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, payroll, performance evaluations
- Mentor own staff and other departmental staff on projects to assist with their professional growth and development
- Participates system-wide pharmacy initiatives
- Be the liaison to the clinics for items relating to pharmaceutical business and finance
- Provide expert knowledge of a variety of operational systems
- Responsible for the maintenance of all licenses required for the business
