About The Role
- The Barry Callebaut Group is the world's leading manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products. Our cocoa and chocolate businesses and the timing of sales versus the timing of purchases expose us to commodity price risks, liquidity risks, foreign currency (FX) risks, and credit risks, among others.
- The Head of Risk, AMEA reports to the Head of Group Risk Management. The role is accountable for monitoring and analyzing the financial risk of the cocoa processing and the chocolate businesses in the AMEA region with focus on commodities.
- The role runs and analyses the month-end valuation of the cocoa processing business.
- It works closely with AMEA sourcing teams and the AMEA finance team analyzing risks, valuation moves, and commodity profits
Key Responsibilities Include- Commodity position control for cocoa and non-cocoa commodities
- Review daily position moves from physical contracting and derivative hedging with sourcing teams. Sense check the impact of process and yield impacts on the position
- Monitor limit compliance
- Run derivative back office activities for AMEA: Reconcile derivative positions with broker reports, match futures, post broker ledger results
- P&L risk and hedging strategy review for cocoa and non-cocoa commodities
- Update forecasts for cocoa sales and purchases to support the hedging decision of the cocoa sourcing team
- Weekly reviews of the cocoa position with the cocoa sourcing team: VP Cocoa APAC, cocoa traders, bean buyers and product traders, cocoa finance BP. Weekly or monthly reviews with the non-cocoa sourcing team
- Analyze the risk of new hedging instruments and trading activities, ensure that new instruments are set up in the risk systems
- Support the AMEA treasury team in assessing transactional FX risk
- Cocoa position valuation
- Run, and analyze the monthly valuation of positions in the cocoa processing business
- Review the result with the Cocoa Finance Business Partner and Regional Finance
- Work on the continuous improvement of the valuation model together with the Cocoa Finance BP and the Group Accounting team
- Establish a closer link of the valuation moves with risk positions and market moves
- Run hedge accounting and hedge effectiveness tests together with accounting teams
- Provide ad hoc analysis for commodity risk and profits, or related risks like FX, counterparty, liquidity risk
- Work on the continuous automation of risk and P&L calculations together with the IT department
About You
- University Master's degree in Finance (ideally with a quantitative focus)/ Economics or similar education
- Minimum 8 years of experience in risk management or FP&A in a commodity sourcing or trading environment, commodity mid-office department of a bank, or related experience in an audit or consulting firm
- Languages: fluent English
- Market risk management education (e.g. FRM) is a plus
- Experience in financial risk and P&L analysis for commodities
- Strong MS Excel skills
- Knowledge of SAP BW, Power BI and programming languages like Python is a plus
- Option knowledge is a plus
- Technical credibility to support and challenge the sourcing teams: Understand risk, hedging and P&L drivers of physical commodity trading/sourcing activities
- Strong communication skills to explain key risks and commodity P&L to the regional finance team
- Attention to detail to fix errors in the position and to constantly improve processes and systems
- High integrity
- Team player. Experience leading a small team is a plus
