Purpose of the Role

  • Identifies and develops strategic direction for Medical Affairs (MA)non-project activities.
  • Responsible for leading Planning and Operations activities for non-product activities as they relate to overall strategy and collaboration with cross functions outside Medical.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally and across all MA, to oversee, coordinate and provide leadership on non-project initiatives ensuring value communication of Medical Affairs activities across varied levels of management.
  • Ensure and enable the achievement of MA goals through strategic guidance and advice in alignment with current Astellas Corporate Strategic Plan.

What you will do includes:

  • Support Senior Vice President, Head of MA Region in creation and execution of multi-year Medical Affairs organizational strategic plan as well as translating the strategy into objectives.
  • Lead collaboration with Commercial Operations on CSP initiatives, Enterprise Priority initiatives e.g. Growth Strategy various activities related to the MA & Commercial collaboration including omnichannel, communication, training and associated activities. as well as other cross functions.
  • Partner with Region Leadership Team and Global Operational Excellence Heads within the region on strategy and plans for MA Region.
  • Provide management and coordination with Global Operational Excellence, Finance, HR and other partners on region budget management, headcount management, field medical performance metrics, HCP/HCO congress attendance funding, audit and inspection, and reporting updates on studies, ISRs, grants.
  • Ensure day to day activities across the region are consolidated and visible to the Head of Region and Region Leadership Team.
  • Lead & provide oversight for the annual brand planning cycle and build consolidated overview for the region.
  • Lead and/ or be the subject matter expert for initiatives associated with MA Functional Unit Objectives, Bold Ambition, and other key strategic activities.
  • Direct interactions with Affiliate Medical Directors to ensure effective collaboration & communication to enable appropriate awareness of risks, opportunities, challenges to affiliate objectives.
  • Member of the Regional Leadership Team.

Strategic Planning and Administration:

  • Work in collaboration with commercial strategy groups to align on initiatives.
  • Work with global operational excellence for needs relating to the digital roadmap.
  • Align on congress planning for region in collaboration with cross functions.
  • Work with M&D communication on alignment of communication plans for MA Region
  • Work with Patient Centricity to ensure alignment and partner with TA on initiatives.
  • Work with Medical Communications to align on priorities and support of MA Region activities (i.e., non-promotional medical material, content factory).
  • Identify potential initiatives in support of CSP and translate for MA activities.
  • Lead MA initiatives specifically related to CSP and MA strategic roadmap as they apply to non-product activities for MA Region.
  • Partner with development in specific areas identified for MA Region.
  • Partner with Region Leadership Team in creating and refining written MA Reports to commercial in order to communicate MA Value delivery.
  • Provide strategic leadership and input for opportunity identification, prioritization, design and management of initiatives across MA Region.
  • Represent MA Region and provide MA Region input into development of cross divisional initiative's strategy to ensure alignment, visibility, and best practices.
  • Demonstrate an ability to adapt and lead innovative solutions in response to MA Senior Leadership requests and direction.
  • Be the trusted advisor for strategic discussions and decision making and provide consistent high-quality unbiased input.
  • Receive cross divisional requests, translate it into MA deliverables and actions, and leverage MA Region functions to provide a consolidated MA response.

Cross Divisional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with Commercial.
  • Collaborate with M&D Divisions.
  • Collaborate with divisions outside of M&D.

Quantitative Dimensions:

  • Lead or chair matrix teams, if applicable, and represent MA Region in relevant initiatives across MA for non-product projects.
  • Collaborates with MA Global, Regional/Functional colleagues and across geographies.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science.
  • Experience with lean six sigma tools and practices.
