Overview:
Element has an opportunity for a Laboratory Manager. In this role you will be a member of the operational leadership team reporting to the Operations Manager or General Manager and perform a variety of leadership responsibilities within the department to insure timely and accurate test results are delivered. All Operational Leadership positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
1) Management System
Adhere to Element Quality and SHE management system policies and procedures and assist with hazard identification and risk assessment exercises within their areas of responsibility
Monitor day-to-day health and safety in the area of responsibility and ensure all hazards, near misses and accidents are reported
2) Responsibilities
Provide technical expertise to the team on the services provided by the company to its customers
Plan daily operation for execution as per agreed timelines with customers
Train the technicians on the job requirements and be responsible for the budgeted numbers and strive to overachieve the targets month after month
Strive and achieve 100% customer satisfaction by timely reports, by providing technical advice to clients, when needed and proactively anticipate and satisfy the clients needs and be abreast with the latest developments in the field
Inter-department/Location co-ordination and work as One Company One Team both internally and externally
Provide timely reports on the activities and future outlook for the business and any other duties and responsibilities assigned and agreed from time to time.
3) Managerial responsibilities:
Conduct periodic team meetings with specific emphasis on HSE, technical updates, etc
Co-ordinate periodic training for the team and represent department in inter-department and client meetings
Motivate the team for superior performance and be a conduit between employees needs and the company
Plan and Manage department employees leave with minimum effect on the operations and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
Departmental responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving conflicts
Skills / Qualifications:
Minimum Degree in Materials Engineering or Materials Science with relevant working experience of 5 years
Working knowledge of laboratory safety with extensive knowledge of the current suite of testing capabilities
Ability to read and interpret test specifications, drawings, test plans and/or blueprints
Technical leadership is vital to the production and operation of assigned tests with advanced working knowledge to operate various testing equipment
Ability to communicate (written and oral) effectively with clients and colleagues with great attention to detail and timing of results
Proven ability to multi task and work under strict time lines
Organizational, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to effectively establish and maintain two-way communications to understand the needs and concerns
