SummaryTo assist with the teaching and learning process by supporting science teachers and students.
Attend to lab request sheets handed in by the teachers
- Clear and clean all apparatus after each experiment and periodically clean up all laboratories and the chemical storeroom and microscope slides
Check that all electrical equipment, sensors and meters are in working order and monitor maintenance requests for the laboratories- Perform safety procedures such as checking first aid cabinets, eyewash stations etc
Check and count all textbooks returned by the students
- Update science records on the computer
Purchasing of essential items for experiments e.g. plants. (Money to be claimed back from petty cash)- Monitor and regularly update the chemicals/stock list on the computer
Maintain lists and contact numbers for suppliers
- Check stock and replenish empty bench reagents
Answer the phone and take messages for teachers- To assist where possible when a teacher is absent
Assist students with their practical work
- Support senior students with their practical work for Extended Essays, Internal Assessments and Group 4 projects. This involves preparing chemicals and equipment and assisting the students while the experimental work is being carried out. This could also be during school holidays/in-service days
Inform Science teachers of any faults in the laboratories, e.g. plumbing- Keep up to date with laboratory safety (CLEAPPS) and file documents
Attend to teacher request for photo-copying for lessons/ examinations
- Attend to any requests from science teachers
You should possess a diploma in Science/Chemistry or other related fields.
- You should possess preferably 2 years experience in a school laboratory
