  • Remuneration Level B position $123,620 - $145,730 + 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Location: Kensington, NSW
  • We are in the process of building and expanding Faculty Arts, Design & Architecture (ADA)

About The Faculty


We are currently seeking expressions of interest for a variety of academic positions across the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture (ADA) because we are building and expanding. Why The Role Matters

Join Faculty Arts, Design & Architecture, part of UNSW School of Built Environment. This role requires an early-career academic with a strong research track record and teaching experience to help deliver our accredited degree programs in City Planning and contribute to research excellence. In terms of city planning specialisations, we particularly welcome applications from scholars with expertise in urban history and heritage, urban design and/or urban planning research methods. Your primary teaching, engagement and leadership responsibilities will sit in the City Planning Program. Where appropriate, you will be encouraged to pursue your research interests in conjunction with the City Futures Research Centre, and take advantage of interdisciplinary opportunities across the School, Faculty and University. Level B Lecturers are expected to make significant contributions in both teaching and research, with the latter evidenced in an upward trajectory of scholarly journal publications and early career research grant success.

Accountabilities

  • Teaching courses within the City Planning program (and where required other programs) with a focus on continued development of existing and new curriculum material as required.
  • Acting as a subject coordinator and developing courses as designated to improve teaching and student experience.
  • Preparation and delivery of lectures or seminars; undertaking assessment and marking.
  • Designing and developing learning activities and resources and assessment tasks using a range of appropriate approaches and learning environments.
  • Supporting learning progression with students both as individuals (through such activities as one-toone consultation) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and high employability outcomes for students.
  • Managing course administration, including academic quality assurance.

Skills And Experience


To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • Qualifications in city planning or closely related field including PhD or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in and passion for the delivery of high-quality city planning curriculum and program material.
  • A commitment to teaching and demonstrated ability and experience in developing and implementing innovative teaching methods.
  • Evidence of and/or preparedness to undertake professional development of teaching practice.
  • Proven capacity to work effectively and sensitively with students, particularly on issues related to learning in individual and group situations and cross-cultural factors in the student experience.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with disciplinary knowledge and developments in city planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake independent academic research in the field of city planning with limited supervision.
