This APAC HQ organization works across borders to ensure brand protection, adherence to legal standards, and excellence in compliance. To support its growing legal needs, the company is looking for a skilled Legal Manager (new position) to join its team in Singapore.
Responsibilities
Reporting into the finance department, you will provide strategic legal guidance, oversee compliance initiatives, and manage a small legal team. Specific responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute legal strategies to manage risk and ensure compliance with relevant laws, including corporate governance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts, such as vendor and client agreements, aligning them with company objectives and mitigating risks.
- Oversee and resolve legal disputes, including managing litigation with external counsel, to protect the company's interests.
- Mentor and manage a junior legal team member, collaborate across departments, and address counterfeit and infringement cases with headquarters.
- Assist in creating and implementing internal policies that promote legal compliance and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (PDPA), overseeing data processing activities within legal requirements.
- Work closely with senior management and other teams to offer legal insights and support strategic business decisions.
Requirements
- Ideally Singapore qualified but open to commonwealth bar qualification or those with a law degree (minimum requirement), with at least 5 years of experience, ideally in licensing, intellectual property, or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of intellectual property law and licensing, with practical experience in corporate and contract law.
- Excellent negotiation and analytical skills, combined with strong verbal and written communication.
- Proven ability to lead and manage projects with a high level of organization and attention to deadlines.
- Previous experience in a leadership or mentoring role within a legal department would be helpful.
