Management Trainee - Operations (New York Based Position)

About Us:

Heritage Collection is a boutique hotel management group which was started in 2011 and is headquartered in Singapore. Living up to our namesake, we are dedicated to preserving Singapore's rich history and culture by making our heritage districts relevant for future generations. For us, relevance is achieved by a pragmatic balance of heritage conservation and innovation.

We have since expanded to Manhattan, New York and specialize in housing for college students.

About the Management Trainee role:

This is an exciting opportunity for aspiring individuals to gain hands-on experience post-graduation. You do not need to have a background in hospitality but you must at least be interested to learn about the industry.

Our goal is to identify and nurture talents. Upon successful completion of the Management Trainee Programme, you will be offered junior management positions in New York with opportunities to grow within the company.

Core Competencies you will be trained in during the 6-month Programme:

A. Tenant Management

  • Ability to foster positive relationships with tenants, addressing concerns and resolving issues promptly
  • Ability to discern and prioritise tenant complaints and maintenance requests
  • Proficiency in clear, effective communication with tenants, team members, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to ask for tenant feedback as part of your performance evaluation
  • Ability to problem solve and ensure compliance to tenancy agreement

B. Building Operations and Management

  • Knowledge of building operations, including maintenance, repairs, and renovations
  • Familiarity with HVAC, IT & security systems, plumbing, electrical, and other building systems
  • Conduct comprehensive inspections of tenant spaces and common areas to ensure cleanliness and compliance with building standards
  • Monitor and manage supplies consumption
  • Ability to develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to ensure equipment and system longevity and efficiency

C. Team Leadership

  • Ability to train, supervise, and motivate maintenance and housekeeping staff to foster a positive, productive work environment
  • Ability to conduct cost-benefit analysis and independently propose and implement initiatives for greater operational efficiency

The Management Trainee Programme is not structured to be a rotational programme. Trainees will be trained in the above competencies concurrently and their application of the competencies will be assessed by milestones throughout the 6-month programme.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree / Diploma in a related field
  • Commitment to a long-term job posting to New York
  • Confident with a strong sense of accountability
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions in emergency situation
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • 5 day work week with standby weekend duties up to twice a month.
  • Willingness to answer texts (e.g. tenant's complaints or emergency requests) outside of normal working hours.
  • Ability to converse in Mandarin
