JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Technologist works for the Tuberculosis Control Unit (TBCU), to support efforts in treating and control of TB using Point of Care Testing (in particular Drug Resistant Testing) for the TB patients in Singapore.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SPECIFIC
Assist the department to perform and manage mycobacteriology laboratory-based activities that support the departments efforts in treating and control TB in the community.
Perform technical activities contributing to the Point of Care Testing (POCT) for Drug Resistant Testing programme to improve the quality and accuracy of TB treatment due to early detection of the resistant drugs.
To oversee the maintenance, quality control and running of all POCT instrumentation in accordance with the standard operating procedure as stipulated by department policy.
Investigate and troubleshoot hardware problems, error message or control results that fail to meet the laboratorys criteria for acceptability.
Maintain accurate documentation with corrective actions taken.
Liaise with vendor in the event of analyser failure or poor performance to establish a timely resolution of the failure.
Perform equipment maintenance as scheduled by department and ensure proper documentation in maintenance log.
Participate in POCT audit and acknowledge audit findings and recommended follow up actions are implemented.
Adheres to infection control measures and complies with recommendations on the disinfection of used items and disposal of contaminated cartridges.
Indent and maintain an uninterrupted availability of reagents and consumables and ensure proper storage according to manufacturer instructions.
Meet the KPIs for laboratory-based activities, and validate relevant new technologies / techniques for Drug Resistant Testing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
Biomedical Degree in a relevant field, or
Diploma in Biomedical Science or equivalent, and minimum 4 years of relevant job experience and demonstrated competency.
EXPERIENCE
Relevant work bench experience in Microbiology, preferably in the Healthcare of Biotechnology industries, will be an advantage.
