The job-holder assesses, identifies, implements, co-ordinates and evaluates departmental nursing staffs continuing education, training and development plans to ensure provision of competent and quality patient care. They are responsible for nursing staff induction, clinical education / training, in-service education, personal and professional growth.
Job Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serves as resource person in education/nursing training matters and clinical issues to provide high quality standard of care
- Plans and provides direct clinical supervision for nursing students and junior staff
- Facilitates the clinical learning environment of nursing students to improve nursing students learning experiences
- Monitors and evaluates nursing students feedback develop action-plans collaboratively with ward nursing colleagues to improve nursing students learning experiences
- Collaborates with education institution to ensure nursing students application of learning int- practice, e.g. hand hygiene compliance
- Utilizes effective teaching strategies to develop critical thinking and clinical reasoning among nursing students, newly recruited nurses and nursing staff
- Coaches preceptors and clinical instructor on their role effectiveness and assessment of nursing trainees and junior nurse's performance e.g. formative and summative assessment, learning action plans
- Conducts nursing staff orientation, training and continuing education programmes to maintain level of competency
- Conducts learning needs analysis to identify learning gaps and training needs of nursing staff at ward/cluster level
- Provides career counselling/coaching for all levels of nursing staffs professional development
- Responsible to maintain and perform the following core competencies competently:
- Clinical teaching / supervision
- Structured teaching
- Assessment of trainees and nurses clinical performance [formative & summative]
- Reviews and revises existing curriculum following constructive recommendation on training/practice issues in order to meet the current educational needs of the hospital
- Participates in the implementation and development of e-learning resources
- Mentors and inducts potential acting nurse clinician for education track
- Works collaboratively with ward/unit/cluster Nursing Officers and Senior Nursing Officers to [i] maintain clinical standards [ii] conduct total performance management (includes career coaching and staff development) and [iii] assume joint managerial responsibilities, e.g. patient's and / or family's feedback, eHOR etc
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Maintains clinical competency by seeking educational opportunities to maintain current knowledge and acquire new knowledge related to nursing practice
- Collaborates with ward/cluster nursing leaders in nursing research initiatives/evidence-based practice to improve patient outcome
- Participates in educational audit/quality improvement projects/risk management
- Participates in nursing workgroup/committee at cluster/hospital level
- Takes on additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned by the Senior Nurse Educator, Deputy/Assistant Director (Nursing) and Chief Nurse
Requirements
- Registered Nurse with at least 9 years of post-registration clinical experience, of which a minimum of one (1) year experience in clinical teaching/professional development and continuing education at an acute hospital setting, and 2 years as Assistant Nurse Clinician
- Diploma in Nursing with relevant post-basic advanced certification and Degree in Nursing from recognized training institution as approved by Singapore Nursing Board. A teaching qualification would be an advantage Interest t- teach nursing training and development activities
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Good computer skills and proficient in MS Office applications such as MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint
