The Metta Home for the Disabled and Metta Home Day Activity Centre () were set up in December 2000 to offer community care options to adults with intellectual disabilities who are aged between 18 and 55.
Funded by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), the former is a purpose-built facility designed to accommodate 103 residents, whereas the latter is supported under the MSF and Tote Board Social Service Fund to provide day care services for a capacity of 50 beneficiaries.
Our programmes aim to equip all recipients with the skills and means to lead independent and fulfilling lives, so as to achieve social integration and quality of life.
Tending them with holistic care and working closely with their primary caregivers to provide well-rounded support is a multi-disciplinary team comprising a social worker, training officers, staff nurses, assistant nurses, nursing and therapy aides.
As a Nursing Aide, the candidate is responsible in the following areas:
1. Caring of clients
- To dispense medication
- To carry out daily dressing for clients / residents
- To conduct health check for hypertension and diabetes clients / residents
- To supervise health attendance
- To provide personal hygiene, grooming care for the residents e.g. bathing, nail cutting
- To observe residents eating, habit and render assistance when required
- To provide toilet training at regular intervals
2. Others
- To coordinate with hospitals / polyclinics for medical appointments
- To escort / accompany clients for follow up appointments / visits to doctors etc
- To coordinate with physiotherapy aide and assist in the residents daily exercise routine
- To facilitate and conduct activities programme e.g. art and craft
- To report any adverse behaviour of residents to supervisor ex: staff nurse
- To attend emergencies when arise
- Any other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- Minimum 1-3 years of nursing care experience, prior experience working with people with special needs is preferred
- Minimum Diploma/ degree in Nursing or equivalent
- Must be able to work 3 rotating shifts including weekends and public holidays
- Ability to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Hardworking, meticulous and responsible.
