Overview of Role
The APAC Gas and Power Operator will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of power and gas systems, while coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to mitigate operational risks and optimize capabilities.
In this role, you will actively engage in portfolio management, ensuring the most commercially efficient optimization and operation of energy assets. A key responsibility will be liaising between the middle, back, and front office to ensure smooth operations and alignment on objectives. Additionally, you will facilitate the build-out of ETRM requirements to support growth of the business, working closely with relevant teams to ensure system alignment and support. Trade support and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) product optimisation and implementation will also form critical components of your duties.
You will join an established and dynamic team global team, contributing your knowledge of APAC Power & Gas systems to help drive operations and value creation across the EU/APAC Gas & Power Team.
This role requires strong understanding of APAC Power markets and potential ETRM solutions, knowledge of gas markets is also beneficial, and the ability to navigate contractual and commercial arrangements while working in pressurised situations.
Main Responsibilities
. Provides day-to-day oversight of desk operations. In addition to participating in an on-call Rota which, will provide out-of-hours operational support.
. Coordinate all operational aspects of physical trading books activity, ensuring Operators safely and cost-effectively turn a physical trade into reality, per the contractual terms
. Assess operational and business risks, minimizing impacts which may impede success or growth of the Company/ Group and escalating those which require additional mitigation.
. Report required information from Operations processes to the Team Leads and Regional Head of Operations, as part of core activities, daily.
. Optimize trader strategies by utilizing knowledge of product movement and relationships with external parties, while accounting for the dynamics of delivery and supply, and resolving and communicating any transport issues that arise with traders.
. Review product movement reconciliations, along with the developing the capacity to facilitate Loss Control investigations
. Develop capability to assess risk (technical, contractual and operational) in non-standard contracts, and implementation: new regions and/or long-term tenders.
. Renewable energy offtakes, tolling, derivatives, REC's, and other structured products.
. Undertaking activities in various energy markets, particularly in the de-regulated markets (Australia, New Zealand, Singapore or Japan).
. Active participation in portfolio management to ensure the most commercially efficient optimisation and operation.
. Previous experience working within a trading environment would be preferable, as would data modelling capabilities, e.g. Python.
. Self-motivated, with an aptitude for accurate problem solving often in a very time critical environment.
. Ability to express ideas articulately and be open to feedback.
. A flexible approach to working hours to accommodate the range of markets and locations.
. Perform ad-hoc tasks as assigned by manager
Profile
The individual should have the following experience:
. Previous electricity industry experience in a similar role within the energy industry is preferred but, not essential.
. Extensive knowledge of APAC de-regulated Power and Gas markets, PPAs, VPPs, tolling, and trading platforms.
. Familiarity with back-office processes, facilitating effective communication across middle, back, and front office functions.
. Experience in portfolio management for efficient asset optimisation.
. Expertise in ETRM systems and BESS product optimization and implementation.
. Strong communication and coordination skills to liaise between internal teams and external partners.
. Experience in energy markets, particularly de-regulated markets (Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, or Japan).
. Data modelling capabilities (e.g. Python) and the ability to solve problems under time-critical conditions would be beneficial.
. Experience in a trading environment and familiarity with energy market regulations.
. Strong understanding of compliance, safety, and in-house processes.
