Summary
The Packaging Engineer manages and oversees the design, testing, implementation and qualification of packaging solutions that are an integral part of the KDPs Product Development process. He or she will also review and improve existing packaging designs for design robustness, cost effectiveness and process improvements.
The position will support the product development team to design, develop, and test for product packaging solutions. You will create & maintain the packaging specs for new and existing production packaging. You will work with both local and US counterparts and packaging suppliers to achieve our functional packaging goals.
What you will
Oversee and manage complete packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing.
Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, cost-effective and environment friendly solutions.
Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine the critical to quality (CTQ) physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging.
Establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation. Evaluate and select packaging suppliers/vendors; periodically conduct vendor reviews.
Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Work closely with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, supplier quality engineering and sourcing.
Participate in product introduction teams, to deliver new products to market, on time and on budget.
Work closely with packaging category team to optimize packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.
Work with the manufacturing department to ensure that the packaging designs are optimized for manufacturability and transportation.
Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure that packaging meets or exceeds customer specifications.

Requirements:
What you must have
A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or packaging engineering is required.
Must have 1+ years of experience in industrial or consumer packaging.
Drafting and specifications standards familiarity is an essential skillset required.
Be familiar with 3D SW to review the product structure, and master CAD, TOPS Pro SW for packaging design and simulation.
Problem solving and decision-making skills are necessary.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Must have good communication skills, orally and in writing. Fluent in Written and Spoken English is required as the working language is English. Fluency in Mandarin is an advantage to converse with and lead our local suppliers.
It will be an added advantage if you are armed with the following skills and knowledge:
With experience in packaging rapid prototyping is a plus.
Be able to demonstrate project management skills and experience; project management certification is a plus.
Specify and recommend efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate packaging designs is a plus.
With knowledge on the process of printing & posting printing, implement and qualify color matching for the packaging artwork is a plus.
Well understanding on the packaging material with engineering data is a plus.
Knowledge and understanding of packaging design validation standards (ISTA) is a plus.
Understanding of process improvement, quality improvement concepts is a plus.
