Primary Responsibilities:
- The candidate shall supervise and review the design of the electrical team by checking specifications, schedules, datasheets, drawings, and 3D models to ensure quality, safety, and technical standards are adhered to.
- The candidate shall review clients, design engineers and/or third-party design and information to determine suitability and liaise with those concerned to obtain further information if necessary.
- The candidate shall have experience gained by delivering projects across the complete project lifecycle from front end engineering design (FEED) through to detailed design, technical assurance, testing & commissioning and final handover.
- The candidate shall produce design layouts which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and which can be constructed and commissioned effectively. The term cost is to embrace all costs associated with the design and the subsequent construction of the design. To be cost-effective, the whole outturn cost of the design solution must be considered, including design time costs, material costs, erection costs and any impact that the design solution might have on other disciplines.
- The candidate shall liaise with other disciplines within the organisation or the project team to fully integrate all design elements.
- The candidate shall provide written reports of system options.
- The candidate shall write specifications for electrical systems.
- The candidate shall prepare calculations and technical/equipment specification documentation.
- Monitor installation of designed equipment/systems to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety codes.
- The candidate shall have experience in leading design delivery, including multidisciplinary design.
- The candidate shall have Excellent knowledge of electrical design (LV and HV systems), motor control centres/switchgear, electrical installations and systems within industrial/process environment, HAZOP assessments, DSEAR/ATEX installation practice, production of SLD/BCD's, earthing and bonding and familiarity with current UK design standards, including industry-specific standards and working practices. Also, able to write and review technical documentation (technical specifications, control philosophies, URS)
- The candidate shall have proficiency in designing appropriate digital analysis packages and electrical design software such as Trimble/Amtech.
- The candidate shall ensure that standard practices are utilised wherever possible.
- The candidate shall provide estimates and feedback for the Proposals department as required
- The candidate shall work through procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the department.
- The candidate shall maintain files and records throughout the duration of contracts.
- The candidate shall assist in supervising and developing staff.
- The candidate shall assist in ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
- The candidate shall ensure designs take account of environmental issues.
- The candidate shall ensure that the design takes full regard for all health and safety requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- The candidate shall have at least 8 years of experience in electrical design works, preferably with contractor experience.
- Experience working on water and sewage treatment projects will be an advantage.
- Experience in monitoring members of staff in designing relevant discipline aspects of water and sewage treatment plants will be an advantage.
- Ability to rationalize designs and produce economic plant layouts.
- Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly.
- Able to work independently in producing the project deliverables to meet project timeline.
- A flexible mind, with the ability to assimilate large amounts of different data at one time.
- Proficient in written and oral communication with good interpersonal skills.
