RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the site in identifying, assessing and managing process hazards by
having detailed knowledge of relevant methods like HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study), LOPA (Layers of Protection Analysis), Consequence/Effects modelling, QRA (Quantitative Risk Analysis)
initiating, leading and facilitating sessions to apply these methods when required
being familiar with the PSM (Process Safety Management) standards and consulting the site and other Evonik sites if required - in applying these
regularly reviewing and improving the process safety elements on site in collaboration with the Plant Managers and the Head of ESHQ
being globally connected so as to learn and implement the best practices in the business line
Support the site in investigating process safety incidents by
having detailed knowledge of relevant tools like RCA (Root Cause Analysis), 5M, Fishbone, Human Factors Analysis, Human Error Failure Analysis
initiating, leading and facilitating sessions to apply these tools
Provide ownership for the MOC (Management of Change) process and database by
being familiar with the database and administering it
implementing the MOC & Pre Start-up Safety Review (PSSR) process by training and consulting all relevant personnel
overseeing and improving the MOC & PSSR process
ensuring that the MOC & PSSR procedures are followed
Consult the site in design and operation of process safety safeguards by
being familiar with the functionality of process control systems including latest technology
knowing the design criteria of the systems used on site (e.g. SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems))
understanding the sites processes main safety interlocks
looking at the emergency shutdown systems, control systems for safety critical process parameters, backup and fail-safe design parameters, alarm and safety interlock strategies for automation systems, temperature and pressure control systems, and other process design aspects (e.g. relief, inherent safe design etc) related to preventing catastrophic failures
Ensure the fulfilment of the process safety site goal by
spending a significant amount of time working with other key technical support groups such as process engineers, plant engineers and technical service representatives
ensuring that the proactive safety indicators for process safety like closure of PHA recommendations, planned maintenance of critical equipment, inspections etc. are implemented
REQUIREMENTS
Education, Certification or relevant experience required:
Bachelor in Engineering with about 10 yrs experience working in Chemical Industry
Additional skills and abilities required for this position:
Good knowledge of chemical plant and/or process engineering as well as ESH compliance programs
Detailed knowledge about processes to identify, assess and manage risks and hazards (HAZOP, LOPA, ETA, QRA etc.)
In depth understanding of process safety safeguards (interlocks, SIS design criteria, mechanical protection, inherent safe design etc.)
High degree of interpersonal and team working skills
Good Communication skills,
A good degree of technical competence to present the facts and implement the necessary steps towards ensuring process safety
Innovative thinking
Ability to be updated and understand the latest engineering design developments is a pre requisite
Prior experience during plant Commissioning and Start-up operations would be an added advantage
List machines, tools, equipment, and others used in the performance of the duties.
Computer, including standard software, SAP and effects modelling tools (e.g. PHAST)
Unique working conditions: Outline specific physical, environmental, or unique conditions associated with the position.

Field work in chemical plant environment
Field work includes wearing of protective clothing and equipment
