About us
Dyson's products operate at the cutting edge of engineering, integrating complex technologies to deliver leading performance and world-class reliability. As we integrate an ever-increasing number of these technologies into our products, the management of the associated complexity becomes key to the success of the project. The Product Technical Lead is a key product leadership position in the Project Leadership Team, partnering the project Design Manager and taking ownership of the overall product technical delivery.
About the role
Technical Partner to the Design Manager
- Operating as the Technical Product Owner of a consumer appliance project, the Technical Lead partners the Design Manager and is accountable for the ultimate delivery of the overall technical maturity of the project.
- They operate as the primary point of contact between engineering and category teams for technical discussions concerning the product level.
Technical Leadership
- They assume ownership of product level functional requirements and non-functional attributes and constraints such as safety, regulatory compliance and reliability.
- They work closely with the project leadership to ensure the technical deliverables at each milestone are appropriately set and the delivery timelines are realistically laid out.
- With their extensive breadth and depth of technical expertise, they lead complex, product level trade-off discussions to enable the correct engineering solutions for the product across multiple functional teams. These will often require nuanced understanding of complex subjects to enable teams to converge in the presence of conflicting information.
Technical Governance
- They collaborate directly with peers within the project cross team at all levels. They ensure a process/system is followed for the structured delivery of technical work packages.
- They are accountable for the appropriate and complete ownership of systems, sub-systems and no ambiguities at interfaces amongst engineering teams.
- They directly report technical readiness of the project to RDD Directors against milestone deliverables prescribed in the company's Product Creation Framework.
- They chair and lead project Technical Reviews after each design iteration spanning all engineering functions.
Technical Status/Progress Reporting
- They periodically review and report technical readiness of the project from the perspective of correctness and completeness of requirements/specifications and closure of technical risk and issues.
