Progress Chef Consultant

Role Overview:

We are seeking a Progress Chef Infra Operations Support Specialist to manage and maintain our Chef infra-automation platform pipelines. The successful candidate will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing operational support, troubleshooting, and enhancement of existing processes. This role also involves developing and maintaining Chef cookbooks and InSpec profiles, ensuring efficient automation and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Support for Chef Pipeline, Cookbooks, and InSpec Profiles:

• Manage incident response and resolution for Chef-related issues.
• Escalate technical cases to principal support when necessary and act as the point of contact between principal support and customers.
• Perform problem resolution and root cause analysis (RCA) on Chef incidents, including presenting RCA reports to customers.

Cookbook Development & Automation:

• Create and maintain Chef cookbooks for operational tasks, such as service restarts, password resets, and other routine activities.
• Develop enhancements for existing cookbooks to improve operational efficiency.

Chef Application Consulting:

• Provide expert consulting to internal teams on best practices for Chef infra-automation.
• Guide and mentor teams on effective use of Chef tools and processes, ensuring compliance with DevOps principles.

Reporting & Process Improvement:

• Collect key metrics and reports for ongoing process improvements.
• Continuously seek ways to improve Chef infrastructure and automation workflows.

Subject Matter Expertise:

• Offer expert knowledge on Chef Infrastructure components including Chef Server, Chef Automate, Chef Client, Chef Workstation, Chef Repo, Test Kitchen, and Chef Supermarket.

Required Skills and Experience:

Chef Infrastructure Expertise:

• Minimum 3 years of experience supporting Progress Chef Infra components, including Chef Server, Chef Automate, Chef Client, Chef Workstation, Chef Repo, Test Kitchen, and Chef Supermarket.

DevOps and Automation Knowledge:

• Strong understanding of DevOps principles and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts.
• Experience in automation and configuration management.

Ruby Programming:

• Extensive experience with Ruby programming for writing and maintaining Chef cookbooks and InSpec profiles.

CI/CD Expertise:

• Strong understanding of CI/CD tools and pipelines.

Security and Compliance:

• Knowledge of security and compliance standards, including IAM and cloud compliance/auditing/monitoring tools.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Chef certification is a plus.
• Strong experience in Chef infrastructure components and Ruby programming.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) is advantageous.
