The Emerging Systems Division focuses research and development on a broad spectrum of capabilities that are critical to the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) defence systems. These include antenna design and electromagnetics, as well as next-wave technologies in the areas of lasers and advanced materials.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of research scientists and engineers developing quantum capabilities in DSO. At the Applied Physical Science Lab in DSO, the successful candidate will work alongside highly motivated colleagues, collaborate with both local and overseas quantum communities to unlock the power of quantum technologies.

Quantum Scientist / Engineer

In this role, you will:

• Design and develop robust quantum sensors for inertial or electromagnetic sensing
• Test and characterise quantum gases or devices in high vacuum, cryogenic setups
• Analyse experimental data from atom interferometry or electromagnetic sensing measurements
• Be involved in system integration of various subsystems (vacuum, optical, electronics, cryogenics) to achieve robust and functional quantum sensing
• Survey and evaluate the feasibility of emerging quantum sensing technologies

Requirements

• PhD / Masters / Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Electrical engineering, or a related field
• Experience in high vacuum and cryogenic experiments
• Experience with experimental techniques, such as optical alignment, interferometry and electronics testing
• Working proficiency in a programming language (Python, MATLAB)
• Strong background in quantum physics, electromagnetism and optics
• Independent and self-driven learner
• Works well in a team
• Passion to translate lab technologies into real world applications
