The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Associate on a 12-month contract at the Multi-centric Education, Research and Industry STEM Centre (meriSTEM@NIE).
Project Title: Understanding the Current Status and Impacting the Future of Singapore STEM Education Landscape: A Multi-Stage, Multi-Year Evaluation Study
Project Introduction: meriSTEM@NIE is a research centre of NIE (link to website). meriSTEM@NIE is looking for one Research Associate to support funded programmes managed by the Centre. meriSTEM@NIE will be collaborating with STEM education stakeholders (policy makers, university faculty and teachers) locally and regionally to expand STEM education capabilities in the areas of instructional implementation, as informed by research. The Programme will entail co-developing deeper understandings of STEM education and co-constructing a common STEM Instructional Framework to guide STEM teacher professional development, integrated STEM lesson implementation, and comparative research. The period of contract will be 12 months (with possible extension) and the Research Associate is expected to take charge of all the major activities of the programmes managed by the Centre.
Requirements
Essential
- A good University degree (Masters and PhD) in sciences or social sciences
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Has publications in reputable education academic/scholarly journals
- Experience with data collection (qualitative and quantitative)
- Good analytical and critical thinking skills
- Good organizational skills, shows initiative to plan and anticipate work needed to be done
- Dynamic and shows positive work attitude
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
- Proficient in simple statistical analysis (e.g., WinSTEP, SPSS, excel, etc.)
- Experience liaising with policy makers and education leaders
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision within tight deadlines
Preferred
- Possess at least one year of working experience in international organizations and/or education contexts
- Experience in planning and coordinating small and large-scale events (e.g., conferences, symposiums, etc.)
- Experience in writing for news, magazines, curriculum materials, and/or professional and academic publication
- Has published in reputable academic/scholarly journals
- Positive work attitude (especially able to work in a team and value-add to the project)
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will report to A/P Teo Tang Wee and provide support for the delivery of the Programme. Duties would include, but not limited to the following:
- Liaison with international partners
- Organisation of meetings and large-scale events
- Lead, coordinate, and develop other team members
- Research-related data design, collection and analysis
- Report and professional publication writing
- All other Programme administration
