The Tropical Marine Science Institute, National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Fellow for the research project Enhancing the ecological resilience of coral reefs in response to climate change stressors (Eco-Res). The Eco-Res project aims to generate actionable strategies from microbial to ecosystem scales. This job call is specifically for Work Package 1 of the project (Ecological solutions for enhancing coral resilience).
Key responsibilities:
. Conduct short- to long-term controlled environment aquarium experiments to investigate effects of stress on coral physiology
. Carry out and refine coral culture protocols at the St. John's Island National Marine Laboratory aquaria
. Lead dives to monitor corals and carry out field studies on Singapore's reefs
. Oversee data collection, data analysis, and preparing research results for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals
. Convey outcomes of research to the relevant stakeholders where necessary
. Monitor and ensure smooth execution of project plan
. Assist in various administrative and project management tasks
. PhD in Marine Biology/Marine Science or related fields
. Expertise in marine organism culture
. Experience conducting both aquarium experiments and field research
. Experience in working with corals, coral biology and reef restoration is highly advantageous
. Expertise in statistical analyses and software (e.g. R, SPSS, Python)
. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, that are essential for communication of findings in scientific and other media
. Proficiency in Microsoft skills e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.
. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced research environment
. Independent and self-motivated
. Good publication record
. Must be able to SCUBA dive, with PADI Rescue level (or equivalent) and above certification
. Must have Class 3 driving license (or equivalent)
. Good knowledge of coral reefs in Singapore and/or the Southeast Asian region
. Preferably with experience working/based at offshore marine research stations
