The Department of Surgery, National University Hospital, National University Health System (NUHS), is seeking candidates who are highly motivated and willing to join us for a challenging and fulfilling appointment as Senior Consultants/ Consultant.
As Senior Consultant/Consultant, you will be required to carry out the duties as directed by the Chairman, Medical Board and Head of Department in accordance with the policies and guidelines set by the Hospital, National University Hospital (NUH) and the Ministry of Health (MOH). You shall manage patient care, deliver teaching and contribute to research towards Cluster's mission.
Job Description:
- Provide surgical care for patients with surgical conditions involving the liver, pancreas, and biliary system (as well as in general surgery). This includes elective and emergency settings, such as general surgery calls, HPB surgery calls, liver transplant calls etc. This also includes day surgery where appropriate.
- Perform common and complex surgery in the field of liver, pancreatic, biliary diseases and other. This includes liver transplantation (both deceased donor liver transplant and living donor liver transplantation) for the adult patients. The candidate may also be required to be involved in paediatric liver transplantation.
- Perform general surgery, hepatobiliary & pancreatic surgery with open approach as well as minimally invasive approach (either laparoscopic, robotic or both).
- Run outpatient clinic service, inpatient service for ward patients, as well as emergency acute care and endoscopy service (where relevant).
- Teaching duties for both undergraduate students as well as post-graduate medical training (and also fellowship training).
- Participate in activities in the Department of Surgery, Division of HPB surgery and other activities (clinical, research, education and administrative) as required in the institution in NUH, NUS and NUHS.
Requirements:
- Possess a basic degree from a recognised medical school or Postgraduate which is registrable with the Singapore Medical Council.
- Completed the training and post-graduate qualifications which are recognised by the Specialists Accreditation Board (SAB).
- Active in clinical practice.
- Demonstrate sub-specialty skills and attract referrals in their sub-specialty areas.
- Demonstrate expert knowledge in area of specialty and expertise in managing complex medical problems and complications.
- Able to work independently with demonstrated competence in managing patients, teaching and research in a multi-discipline environment.
- Confident, takes initiatives and a good team player.
- Depending on the relevant experience, applicant can be considered for the Senior Consultant position.
