Position Overview
Under minimal supervision, provide experienced legal services and advice to clients, including drafting and negotiation of commercial and corporate, reinsurance contracts, agreements and other documents. Provide timely, high-quality legal advice and assistance to Global Legal Services (GLS) attorneys and business clients with an emphasis on commercial and corporate, reinsurance issues and transactions across multiple Asia Pacific jurisdictions including civil and common law jurisdictions. Proactively serve clients and others with a responsive, service-oriented attitude and strong work ethic.
Responsibilities
Provide timely and high-quality legal advice and support. Proactively serve clients with a strong work ethic, appropriately escalating matters when necessary.
Provide guidance and advice to the management team on day-to-day legal issues arising in connection with RGAs business across multiple jurisdictions (both common law and civil law) in the Asia Pacific region involving complex company structures with both onshore and offshore operations.
Provide guidance on general data privacy requirements and cross-border data transfer in compliance with data privacy laws in the Asia Pacific region.
Provide guidance and advice to the HR teams across multiple jurisdictions (both common law and civil law) in the Asia Pacific region involving employment related issues.
Provide legal support to RGA initiatives including data and strategic analytics in the Asia Pacific region. Provide guidance on business structure, licensing and intellectual property ownership/protection as well as onshore and offshore compliance matters including global mobility arrangement across Asia Pacific jurisdictions.
Provide legal support on business establishment initiatives, including licensing application in the Asia Pacific region.
Collaborate and communicate with members of the GLS team and business clients to perform assignments and projects involving an advanced level of complexity, as directed.
Assist, as assigned, in preparing commercial and corporate, reinsurance contracts, documents and other essential legal documents.
Apply substantial knowledge and experience to identify legal issues and provide advice on alternatives to mitigate risk to the enterprise while achieving client goals and objectives.
Assist, as needed, in due diligence and document review and preparation processes in connection with transactional matters.
Research and analyze legal issues and questions using appropriate resources.
Other projects as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience
Required:
Law degree from an accredited law school.
Bachelors Degree from accredited university or college.
Licensed to practice law in relevant legal jurisdiction.
Minimum 6 to 9 years experience as an attorney in a law firm or in a corporate legal function with focus on financial services/re/insurance.
Preferred:
Experience in a global business enterprise with operations in various Asia Pacific jurisdictions with different legal systems and cultures.
Experience with reinsurance concepts, treaties and transaction, regulatory.
Experience working in financial regulatory body.
Masters Degree in Business, Finance or International Legal Studies from accredited university or college.
Fluent in one of the following languages: Chinese, Korean or Japanese (Chinese preferred).

Experienced, senior-level knowledge of laws and regulations across jurisdictions in the Asia Pacific region with RGA operations.
Substantial and experienced knowledge of legal and contract terminology and methods; general business and financial knowledge.
Experienced ability to identify and interpret business and contract issues.
Experienced client counseling skills in translating business needs and problems into viable and accepted solutions.
Excellent client service and interpersonal skills, with continual focus and dedication to high level of client service.
Excellent skills with respect to drafting, review, proofreading, negotiation, persuasion, and oral and written communication. Demonstrated ability to clearly present appropriate business terminology and concepts.
Serve clients and provide legal services and advice at a level commensurate to a senior associate or junior partner in a law firm.
Highly organized and results oriented with strong attention to detail.
Seasoned time management skills and commitment to meet deadlines.
