About TransferConnect

You'll help the TransferConnect team build and ship our points transfer service to Ascenda's fintech, banking and airline partners. Our deep and growing list of integrations with airlines and hotels gives discerning travelers the flexibility to transfer and spend their earned points at the travel provider of their choice.

As the leader of this team, you will define and execute on its long term vision, expand offerings to cover our new expansion markets, and put in place processes for operational excellence (security, reliability). TransferConnect is one the most critical parts of our business, and the main way our users choose to spend their points. Your impact here will directly drive the current and future trajectory of the company.

Our senior engineering managers are responsible for creating the vision and leading their team to deliver solutions that are flexible, highly available, efficient, and scale with the needs of the business. You will work closely with engineering, product, design, and go-to-market teams to drive business impact. Each leader brings their unique skill set, experiences, thought leadership and technical expertise to solve these technical challenges for Ascenda.

About The Role

As the Senior Engineering Manager for the TransferConnect team, you will be responsible for overseeing the development and deployment of our points transfer service, ensuring that it's scalable, highly-available, and intuitive for our discerning user base.

You will have direct involvement and ownership in driving the strategic vision and execution of the team.

You will partner closely with product, design, and engineering teams across Ascenda, ensuring that we have a great end-user experience while shipping fast and maintaining efficiency. You will work directly with our clients and supplier partners to ensure that we meet our SLA commitments and provide a best-in-class service.

Responsibilities

  • Build a vision for and execute on the future of points transfers at Ascenda, defining the industry standard in this space.
  • Play a key role in designing and building monitoring and observability.
  • Own & coordinate major delivery initiatives.
  • Work closely with designers, product owners, and engineers from multiple teams to execute on the roadmap.
  • Work directly with clients and suppliers to ensure that we are the best points transfer service in the world.
  • Mentor and help grow the careers of engineers and managers, and drive improvements to Ascenda's engineering culture and processes.
  • Solve problems across multiple domains, such as performance, internationalization, and multi-tenancy.

What We're Looking For

  • Good technical background in building trafficked large scale web applications on a modern backend stack
  • 3+ years of engineering management experience, with 10+ years of relevant software engineering experience in a fast paced tech environment.
  • Experience leading and working with other tech leads and mentoring team members across multiple levels.
  • Ability to talk to our external partners, understand their needs, and translate them into technical requirements.
  • Deep experience in backend programming languages such as Ruby, Golang, or any other relevant languages.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and with teams across the organization.
  • Ability to drive improvements in efficiency, availability, technical quality and overall system quality.
  • Prior experience in the travel technology industry is a bonus
