Role Responsibilities:
- Oversee global intellectual property initiatives in international markets, focusing on trademark portfolio management, brand protection, and expansion.
- Manage and lead trademark protection cases, including judicial or administrative proceedings such as opposition and cancellation actions.
- Partner with external legal advisors and internal teams like brand and product groups to identify key areas for trademark protection and brand development.
- Develop and implement strategies for trademark clearance and prosecution in international markets.
- Work closely with external counsel on strategies for trademark enforcement and brand protection, including handling opposition and cancellation actions.
- Collaborate with external advisors to perform pre-entry trademark clearances.
- Collect and assess evidence and specimens of use for trademark purposes.
- Enhance and streamline processes for maintaining the global trademark portfolio.
- Coordinate with the Branding team to establish global brand guidelines and licensing policies.
- Prepare, review, and negotiate trademark licenses and agreements as necessary.
- Assist the Marketing team with legal reviews for advertising content to ensure compliance.
Qualifications:
To thrive in this role, candidates should have:
- A law degree from a top-tier law school.
- Legal qualification to practice in at least one common law jurisdiction, with a preference for a US state bar.
- A minimum of 8 years of substantial experience in IP litigation, trademark law, and brand enforcement, covering all aspects of managing and protecting a trademark portfolio, with a preference for in-house experience.
- Proven experience in global brand protection, with a particular focus on the United States.
- Proficiency in English, with conversational fluency in Chinese to communicate with key stakeholders internally and externally.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with strong skills in issue identification, prioritization, and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of, or willingness to learn, advertising compliance laws and regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to build trust, respect, and collaboration with internal stakeholders.
