The role of the Rio Tinto Borates Sales Director is to accelerate growth through building and leading a high-performing sales team. The successful candidate will be energetic, persuasive, well organized, and demonstrate a strong commercial acumen. The Sales Director is responsible for defining and executing appropriate sales strategies; business development, marketing, technical, operations, and sales support programs to maximize value.
The Sales Director is responsible for strategic leadership of the sales team, demanding well-developed interpersonal and collaboration skills to manage and develop the sales team to ensure they achieve goals.
The Sales Director role requires commercial acumen and, a deep understanding of the customer base, the competitive market, and an ability to analyze sales performance. The Sales Director must be extremely well informed about the market and therefore able to anticipate shifts in the forecast and manage market dynamics.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead the negotiation of physical contracts with customers across Asia.
- Devise, implement and, monitor the Asian Rio Tinto Borates sales strategy.
- Set revenue targets and key performance indicators; and project sales volume and margin for new and existing products.
- Develop strong and professional relationships with key customers and internal stakeholders.
- Guide the sales managers in the development and execution of account management plans
- Coordinate global sales activities for key opportunities.
- Support and lead large contract negotiations. Participate if and when required.
- Spot market opportunities for new customers.
- Attend key meetings with members of the sales team.
- Motivate and coach the sales team to achieve the best results possible.
- Continual training and development of all members of the sales group.
- Identify key areas for improvement in the sales process, and implement best practices in sales techniques
- Attend relevant industry events and conferences to build business.
- Work with strategic marketing team to analyze competitor activities in the region and assess opportunities for business development.
- Keep up to date with industry news, changing trends, economic indicators, and competitors to identify opportunities for new business.
- Ensure market intelligence and insight are effectively shared across sales and marketing.
- Report on key KPIs related to the sales forecast and plan in order to implement a consistent closed-loop between marketing and sales
As part of his role, the Director must work closely with
- Work closely with sales managers
- Partner with Technical Marketing and Research & Innovation to support sales and develop opportunities.
- Work effectively with internal support departments Marketing, Finance, Operations, Customer Service, Logistics and Value Chain
- Utilize the Rio Tinto Business partners (legal, credit and risk) to facilitate sales activities.
What You'll Bring
- Proven ability to successfully conclude large and complex negotiations
- Proven experience in developing strong customer relationships and complex deals
- Proven experience leading, developing and engaging a diverse and remote team
- Proven ability to create commercial value through deep understanding of customers needs and joining the dots with our operational capabilities and constraints
- Strong strategic and commercial acumens
- Strong stakeholder management, influencing skills and ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to drive value for the business
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to change is required

- Knowledge and experience in the Borates
- Degree qualifications in commercial, business or technical disciplines

Where you will be working
Headquartered in Singapore, and integrated with Rio Tinto's assets, hubs, and offices globally, our Commercial group works hand-in-hand with our product groups to ensure both the amount and types of products we produce meet our customer's needs, and manage the trade-off between volumes, quality,cost and capital expenditure.
