The candidate is expected to carry out the following job scope and assume the following responsibilities at Whitby Wood Mills:
Technical Leadership:
- Lead and manage multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring the timely and high-quality delivery of engineering design projects.
- Provide advanced engineering expertise in design, analysis, and innovative problem-solving for complex projects.
Computational Design & Coding:
- Develop and implement parametric models and algorithms using coding skills (e.g., Python, Grasshopper, Dynamo) to optimize and automate design processes.
- Ensure seamless software interoperability across platforms (e.g., Rhino, Revit, Tekla) for improved collaboration and project integration.
Finite Element Analysis (FEM):
- Perform and validate detailed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess structural performance under various load cases using software like Abaqus.
- Use analysis results to drive technical decisions and improve design accuracy and safety.
Project Management & Planning:
- Develop and implement detailed project plans, including scope, timelines, resource allocation, and budgeting.
- Identify and manage project risks by developing effective mitigation strategies.
- Monitor project budgets, ensuring financial performance and delivery within budget constraints.
Client & Stakeholder Management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participate in business development activities, including proposal preparation, client acquisition, and presentations.
Technical Detailing & Documentation:
- Prepare and review detailed construction drawings, specifications, and calculations for submissions to relevant authorities (e.g., BCA, LTA) or for international projects.
- Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations and standards in all project designs and deliverables.
Design Review & Quality Assurance:
- Review and approve engineering designs, calculations, and technical specifications prepared by project teams.
- Ensure that all projects meet the firm's quality standards and comply with client requirements and safety protocols.
Mentorship & Training:
- Mentor junior engineers and design staff, offering technical guidance and support for professional development.
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of the engineering team, including computational tools and software interoperability.
Technology Integration & Process Improvement:
- Stay updated on the latest engineering technologies and tools, integrating them into project workflows where appropriate.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance project delivery, efficiency, and innovation.
Proposal Preparation & Market Analysis:
- Contribute technical expertise to proposals and bids, analyzing market trends and client needs to identify new opportunities for expanding the firm's services.
Sustainability Practices:
- Promote and incorporate sustainable design practices, ensuring that projects meet environmental and client objectives.
