Summary
The Senior Sustainability Specialist (Products and Packaging) acts as a subject matter expert for sustainability concepts in our products, raw materials and packaging.
The successful person will drive sustainable sourcing practices in our products and related packaging across all our categories (apparel, hardgoods and food). They will further lead sustainability projects in collaboration within internal and external stakeholders to reduce environmental impact.
What you'll do
The holder of the position is mainly responsible for the following areas in coordination with his/her superior:
Deliver projects and initiatives of our sustainability strategy to achieve our material, product and packaging targets for all categories across the business (textile, hardgoods, food, near-food), including a comprehensive implementation plan
Contribute to the development of our circularity strategy to reduce production waste in our supply chain, increase the use of recycled content and enable recyclability
Liaising with key stakeholders to develop and help deliver our sustainability assortment strategies
Assist the business and factories in obtaining and maintaining sustainability certification requirements to ensure compliance
Drive the research for alternative materials and production methods to achieve sustainability targets and or wider sustainability assortments
Identifying risks and appropriate mitigation measures and highlighting any opportunities to ensure the sustainability targets are being met
Lead the monitoring and preparation of the business in responding to external stakeholder or legislative requirements (e.g. EU Green Deal)
Oversee closely with team analyst product and packaging performance data management and analysis and manage process improvements across the business
Support the development of sustainability reports to demonstrate compliance with sustainability targets
Conduct trainings for internal colleagues and external stakeholders
Represent and lead within industry forums and collaborations. Attend forums, build relationships, and gather information to enable our targets
What you'll need
Minimum 5 years experience working in the field of sustainability
Experience in or technical knowledge of production, product development, material science or engineering preferred
Technical knowledge of various industry certifications required by the industry to deliver sustainably certified products is preferred (e.g. ICTI, Cradle to Cradle, GRS, etc.)
Excellent communication skills to rationally explain, explore and discuss sustainability issues, as well as to sell your ideas
Entrepreneurial skills to identify new ideas and solutions for our product offerings
Sound persuasive skills to navigate resistance to change and influence people
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment; anticipate needs and be proactive in resolving issues; and follow Lidl HK policies and procedures.
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
Autonomous, proactive, detailed and commercially minded
High degree of works ethics and integrity
Good command of both spoken and written English. Additional languages are an advantage
Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications especially Excel, Word & Powerpoint
