Reuters is looking for a versatile and energetic journalist as its Southeast Asia Financial Correspondent in Singapore. This hybrid role will mainly focus on coverage of the top banks and wealth managers in Southeast Asias main financial centre, while collaborating closely with the Singapore bureaus chief correspondent on the biggest general breaking news stories as well as helping develop initiative stories. The role would also cover the sovereign wealth funds Temasek and GIC, and work closely with Reuters Southeast Asia deals correspondent in Singapore and the wider global finance & markets team to break news on deals and write ahead-of-the-curve analyses on major investment trends.
The successful candidate will also cover the Monetary Authority of Singapore and other major stories in the country, such as large industry conferences, and hot companies such as Shein, in cooperation with the Singapore bureau. This is a crucial role as the strategic importance of Singapore as a financial centre/wealth management/trading and energy hub grows, with a sharp surge in capital inflows from individuals and institutions looking to avoid China risk, at a time when some Chinese companies, including investment banks, are also expanding in Southeast Asia, home to some of the biggest and fastest growing economies.
