We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teacher Assistant to work closely with children with special needs under the guidance of our lead teachers. The ideal candidate will support the classroom environment, assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), and work one-on-one or in small groups with children to enhance their learning and development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead teacher in preparing and implementing lesson plans tailored to children with special needs
- Provide individual support to children during classroom activities, ensuring their participation and engagement
- Help manage behavior in a positive and supportive manner using approved techniques
- Support children with basic tasks such as eating, grooming, and toileting, as needed
- Assist in implementing sensory integration activities, speech exercises, and motor skills training
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment
- Monitor students progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher and multidisciplinary team
- Assist in the preparation of classroom materials and setup of special learning environments
- Communicate effectively with teachers, therapists, and parents about each child's needs and progress
- Support the lead teacher in ensuring that classroom routines are followed and that children are engaged and learning
- Participate in professional development workshops and team meetings
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent an associate degree in education, early childhood development, or related field is preferred
- Previous experience working with children with special needs is highly desirable
- Basic knowledge of early intervention, behavior management, and sensory integration techniques is an advantage
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping children with special needs
- Ability to follow instructions and collaborate with lead teachers and other professionals
- Willingness to assist with personal care tasks, such as grooming and toileting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a special education or early intervention classroom setting
- Knowledge of autism, developmental delays, and other disabilities
- Certification in first aid or child CPR is a plus
