Position Summary
As an NPI Electrical and Electronics Engineer, the role involves playing a pivotal part in developing and introducing new products to the market. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless transition from design to manufacturing, while maintaining high-quality standards and meeting project timeline.
Tasks And Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the product development team to understand product specifications, requirements, and design intents.
- Support the development of embedded systems, electrical and electronic designs, schematics, and PCB layouts for new products.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, operational readiness reviews, and manufacturing specification reviews to identify potential issues and optimize product manufacturability.
- Collaborate with other module owners to develop embedded system testing at both the module and product levels, ensuring smooth deployment to production.
- Lead and manage suppliers to deliver the PCA fabrication process, including test methodologies, ICT, and FCT fabrication throughout the product development cycle, and manage the deployment of these processes and testing during mass production.
- Lead the resolution of technical issues encountered during the NPI process.
- Assist in testing and validating prototypes to ensure compliance with product specifications and regulatory standards.
- Create and maintain documentation, including, but not limited to, detailed engineering drawings, purchase component specifications, BOMs (Bill of Materials), test reports, assembly procedures, and design validation plans.
- Support manufacturing teams during the production ramp-up phase by troubleshooting and optimizing processes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts to enhance NPI processes and procedures.
- Frequent travel to other Illumina manufacturing sites, contract manufacturing partners and suppliers is anticipated.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Preferred Education
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
Preferred Requirements
- 5+ years of experience engineering electrical or electro-mechanical products for commercial and industrial markets.
- Advanced understanding and experience in embedded systems, circuit theory, analog and digital electronics, with proficiency in operating test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other relevant devices.
- Excellent working knowledge and experience in embedded system, electronics, PCBA manufacturing and testing and electro-mechanical systems are essential.
- Solid knowledge of PCBA design, ICT, FCT and standard manufacturing processes is essential.
- Experience with Altium or other PCBA design tools.
- Experience in EMC/EMI design and countermeasures.
- Strong problem-solving techniques, statistical engineering techniques, product and process capability analysis, and risk assessment.
- Advanced experience with software packages such as Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Project. Knowledge of LabView, Visual Basic, and Python programming is an added advantage.
- Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, interface well with manufacturing and service organizations, and a demonstrated track record of successfully transferring products to manufacturing.
- Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and graphical formats.
- Demonstrated use and understanding of MRP systems, Product Data Management systems and Change Control processes. Teamcenter, SAP & PLM experiences will be added advantage.
- Strong understanding of BOM (Bill of Materials) structuring fundamentals and the ability to create and manage ECOs (Engineering Change Orders) and Deviations.
- Experience with FDA-regulated medical device product development is preferred.
- Product development experience in the life sciences, biotech, biomedical, or nanotechnology industries is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Must be comfortable with a rapidly changing and fast-paced work environment.
