We are currently recruiting a technician who will join the animal facility at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKC Medicine).
The animal facility technician will be responsible for carrying out all aspects of the husbandry requirements, from checking on the animals, changing soiled cages, stocking up supplies, and maintaining a clean facility thereby enhancing the research work of the different users.
Responsibilities
Animal Husbandry
- Perform daily animal checks such as change soiled cages, diet and water topping up, referring sick animals to the vets. Perform regular maintenance on animal care equipment and facilities such as transfer soiled cages for washing, unloading sterilized cages and distributing them to the respective rooms.
- Moving and transporting supplies, receiving, or helping in handling animal shipments.
- Managing clean and soiled scrubs and gowns.
Manage Procedure Rooms
- Topping up supplies, cleaning and handling all types of waste.
- Oversee and maintain various equipment housed in the procedure rooms, engaging servicemen for repairs as needed. Assist in procedural work to learn and teach new procedures.
- Carry out procedures on animals as a service.
Upkeep of the facility and equipment
- Perform housekeeping tasks (such as, receiving diets, beddings and other consumables, sanitizing and maintaining floors)
- Coordinate and transport supplies, receive and manage animal shipments, ensuring proper care during transit.
- Manage clean and soiled scrubs, gowns and other linens used in animal care.
- Monitor and ensure proper operation of animal care equipment and facilities.
Support for Research Activities
- Maintain accurate records of animal care, including feeding schedules, health observations, and breeding data. Document any treatments or procedures performed on animals.
- Assist research staff with animal handling and procedural support. Prepare animals and equipment for procedures. Ensure compliance with research protocols and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Diploma or equivalent with minimum 1 year of experience in animal care (rodents and NHP), particularly in a laboratory or research setting, is highly desirable.
- Possess additional coursework or certification in animal care, veterinary technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Has strong attention to detail and observant, is compassionate and dedicated to animal welfare.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
