Overview
The Systems Engineer, Unix/Linux, is responsible for the administration and troubleshooting in a
24x7 enterprise environment.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the support of IT infrastructure on Unix platform.
- Provide expertise in troubleshooting and identifying root cause analysis of server and application Issues.
- Deploy Unix/Linux packages and bug fixes to Test/PreProd/Production environments.
- Responsible for the day-to-day operational aspects of Unix/Linux/Solaris/Redhat/AIX/SUSE administration to meet the business needs and service levels.
- Adhere to change management requirements for change requests.
- Manage operational changes through change request process and provide status reports to the relevant parties.
- Provide 1st and 2nd level operational support of Unix/Linux/Solaris/Redhat/AIX/SUSE.
- Provide 1st level troubleshooting of 3rd party applications that is used to support the infrastructure, and following up with 3rd party vendor to resolution.
- Participate in audit activities and respond to audit findings.
- Respond promptly to incidents, investigate and deliver temporary or permanent resolutions of incidents escalated, and provide timely status updates to relevant parties.
- Ensure service levels meet the requirements, and propose and implement action plans when required.
- Responsible for the implementation of service continuity measures, such as backup/restore procedures and disaster recovery plan, to ensure continuity of the business operations.
- Support of other Unix/Linux administration activities.
- As this is a 24x7 environment, some activities need to be conducted after working hours (eg. patching).
- Ensure documentation is updated.
- Any other ad-hoc duties as required or assigned.
- Depending on activities, occasional travel to other offices in Singapore is required
Requirements
- Minimum Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of relevant working experience in Unix/Linux/Solaris/Redhat/AIX/SUSE administration in an enterprise level environment.
- Strong Knowledge and experience in RedHat Clustering and Oracle Solaris Clustering.
- Strong Knowledge and experience in scripting tools/language, such as Perl, Ruby and AWK.
- Relevant knowledge in Solarwinds.
- Knowledge in Microsoft technology like Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, etc, is an advantage.
- Working hours typically 9am to 6pm but with variations due to 24x7 environment (eg. Patching activities).
