As a Virtual Production Operator, you will be responsible for operating and managing the Brain Bara centralized control hub for real-time virtual production processes.
This role involves overseeing the technical execution of virtual production elements during shoots, ensuring smooth operation of systems such as real-time rendering engines, motion capture, and virtual cameras. The VPO plays a critical role in supporting the creative vision by enabling seamless interaction between live-action and virtual environments. You will also be assigned to other exciting projects or tasks where relevant.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Operate and maintain the Brain Bar during virtual production shoots, managing real-time rendering, virtual cameras, and motion capture systems and ensuring seamless integration with the LED Volume.
- Ensure all virtual production systems are functioning correctly and troubleshoot any technical issues that arise.
- Monitor and adjust real-time visual outputs to ensure consistency with the director's vision.
- Work closely with the Virtual Production Supervisor, VFX teams, and other key stakeholders to understand and execute the creative and technical requirements of the project.
- Provide real-time feedback to the production team on the status of virtual assets, environments, and characters during shoots.
- Communicate any technical challenges or limitations to the relevant departments and collaborate on finding solutions.
- Regularly calibrate and optimize virtual production systems, ensuring they are performing at peak efficiency.
- Manage the integration of various virtual production tools, such as Unreal Engine, Unity, or other real-time rendering platforms.
- Implement updates and improvements to the Brain Bar systems as needed to support the evolving needs of the production.
- Assist in the setup and testing of virtual production equipment before shoots, including virtual cameras, motion capture systems, and other real-time tools.
- Conduct system checks and dry runs to ensure that all Brain Bar operations are ready for live production.
- Provide on-set support during filming, managing the Brain Bar operations to ensure seamless integration of virtual elements.
- Work with the live-action crew to align virtual production elements with the physical set and camera movements.
- Quickly adapt to changes and challenges on set, making real-time adjustments to ensure production continuity.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in virtual production, real-time rendering, or a related technical field.
- Hands-on experience operating real-time rendering engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) and virtual production tools.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in managing and troubleshooting virtual production systems, including motion capture and virtual camera rigs.
- Strong understanding of real-time rendering workflows and virtual production pipelines.
- Familiarity with networking, hardware, and software setups commonly used in virtual production.
- Good knowledge of LED Volume operations.
Soft Skills
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to remain calm under pressure.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical team members.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic production environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma in Computer Science, Visual Effects, Animation, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience working on virtual production stages or similar environments.
- Familiarity with motion capture technology and its integration with virtual production.
- Familiar with Unreal Engine and relevant real-time rendering platforms.
- Basic programming skills in Python, C++, or similar languages.
